Meditation tips for beginners

Thinking about meditation but haven’t got a mountain handy?

It’s very easy to overthink the “how to’s” of meditation.

The best form of meditation is the one that works for you in the time that works for you and you do not need a lesson from a guru in order to start meditating.

There are some very good themed and guided meditations available on  platforms such as Youtube if you don’t feel ready to go it alone and they vary in time length too to suit your life schedule needs.

While there are no hard and fast rules to meditation it is definitely beneficial to your self to make meditation  a daily practice. You can consider it a part of your daily holistic health care package, which, in itself, is a topic for another day but is a preventive and proactive self help health action.

If you want to style your own meditation or just try out a simple meditation then here is a suggestion for you.

Make yourself comfortable either seated or lying down and where possible in a quiet and solitary location.

Close your eyes.

Listen to your breathing for as you need to relax; notice that your breathing rate slows.

Starting at your head think about each of your body parts, working down to your toes. Are you holding any physical tension in any part of your body such as your mouth, shoulders, glutes or toes? If so, each time you breathe out imagine releasing that tension, for as many times as you like until you feel that body part is relaxed. Then carry on checking the other parts of you until you are all done and completely relaxed.

Then, in your minds eye, go inwards to your heart. Hear its gentle beat and visualise it moving and beating.

Then visualise the dark empty space next to it.

Stay there, in that space.

It is a very calm place right?

That’s because this is the seat of your source energy, your higher inner self.

Say hi to your true self if you like.

This is the true self that drives and steers you through life, makes you breathe, runs your subconscious and rings alarm bells for you when required. This self has your back; always.

That’s why arriving where it abides feels so peaceful.

Stay a while, if other thoughts come in to your mind, that’s fine, but as simply as they came into your mind, let them go again.

Abide here until you are ready and then slowly wriggle your fingers and toes, move your head side to side and open your eyes again.

Smile and thank your self for taking that time just to be.

I hope you enjoy trying this meditation and that meditation becomes a part of your daily schedule.

Your choices today affect your reality tomorrow.
